Past Grant Recipients
WILLIAM HOFFMAN |
Heidi's Foundation is pleased to announce the award of an HKF grant to William Hoffman!
Will is a current student of SJSU and an avid hockey player. As 1 of 7 kids (3 sisters and 3 younger brothers), he knows what giving and support are all about. He considers himself very lucky to be able to go to school and earn his degree. I had the opportunity to work alongside Will during an internship he had with the company I work for. It was quickly easy to see the things he does daily to go above and beyond to help family, friends and co-workers and that is the type of person we like to promote here at the Heidi Krueger Foundation. |
With the grant we've awarded him, he will be able to pay off a portion of his education, but more importantly allowing him to help his younger siblings also achieve their degree.
I am very proud and excited to invite will into our foundation and help to perpetuate the spirit of giving!
Sergio Hernandez

Update on Sergio...
Heidi Krueger Foundation Board member Jed Wockenfuss met with 2-time grant recipient Sergio Hernandez on campus at UCLA recently to award his grant to him. Sergio is entering his Sophomore year at UCLA. He has classes in English Literature and Computer Science this fall. He has acclimated well to the college life and is doing well in his coursework. He is still undecided on his major but mentioned a strong interest in studying business and helping those in need. Sergio is also heavily engaged in the UCLA chess club and is working on ways to share his love of the game with others who haven’t been exposed to it.
Per Jed, “Our Foundation is hitting the mark in carrying out its purpose by supporting a young man like Sergio as he pursues his undergraduate degree. The work we’re doing matters and is impacting lives for the better.”

Heidi's Foundation Announces: Jennifer Alvarez Receives HKF Grant
Heidi's Foundation is pleased to announce the award of a HKF grant to Jennifer Alvarez, on 12/5/15.
Jennifer will be using the grant to help with her final semester tuition at San Jose State University, where she is scheduled to graduate in June 2016. Jen is a true example of a person creating a better life for herself and her daughters, by earning her college education. And it has not been easy for her to make this happen. Jen is a single mother of two girls, JJ and Brianna, a kindergartner and second-grader. She is teaching her daughters in the best manner possible, by example, what it means to work hard, persevere and push through, while so many other people take the "easy route". Jennifer is proving that a person's will power and commitment are stronger than the statistics. Jen had her first baby at age 19, while attending College. |
According to current statistics, only 1 out of 4 people return to college after having a baby. Of those that do come back, only a few typically finish their degree.
Jen is proof that hard work and commitment are more powerful than all the statistics in the world! Please join us in congratulating Jennifer Alvarez as she creates a future for herself and her family! |
Heidi's Foundation Announces: Tristan Sanchez Receives HKF Grant
Heidi's Foundation is pleased to announce the award of a HKF grant to Tristan Sanchez, on January 15th, 2016.
This "kid" seen here dwarfing me, is Tristan Sanchez. He will be using his grant to offset expenses as he continues his education. He has worked hard to overcome learning disabilities, and has achieved high grades, as a result. Tristan comes from a strong family unit that includes his mother and sister. In the future, Tristan hopes to continue his "Life training" by joining the military (though Mom has yet to be convinced on the idea...). |
Tristan has a passion for playing hockey, playing as a defenseman on teams for the past 9 years. He's tough enough to have played through 3 hockey periods, including 2 overtimes, after breaking his wrist in the period before! He also has a strong need to contribute, both in his family and to others in his community.
Please join us in congratulating Tristan Sanchez as he creates a future for himself and his family! |

Matt was a beloved son, brother, nephew, and friend to many. His dimpled smile and jovial laugh are greatly missed.
